Brava: People of Nossa Senhora do Monte want improvements to the Health Center and the creation of a Police Station
The population of Vila de Nossa Senhora do Monte, on Brava Island, today asked for more attention to the locality from the city council, also requesting improvements to the Health Center and the creation of a Police Station.
These appeals were made on the sidelines of a meeting between young people from the Nossa Senhora do Monte community and the president of Brava City Council, Francisco Tavares.
Speaking to Inforpress, resident Jovany Gonçalves highlighted that “great work” has already been carried out in the area by the city council, but highlighted that there are still some things missing that could be improved.
According to the same source, the Health Center has been working with a doctor who is not always present in the office, but guarantees that there is a nurse on duty and added that the space needs to be rehabilitated.
“The school in our locality is a little dilapidated, as it is very old, but there are many children who belong to various neighborhoods in the parish of Nossa Senhora do Monte who attend it”, he informed.
In this situation, Jovany Gonçalves called on the city council to intervene with the Ministry of Education (ME) and the Government, to carry out a “dignified” rehabilitation in this educational establishment, which would dignify the population of this location.
According to this young man, the community has suffered from various vandalism and crime, which is why, according to him, they feel the need for a police station or frequent presence of officers in the locality.
Another resident, Mariazinha Gomes, stated that the community really misses an ATM machine because the one that exists is in Vila de Nova Sintra and also requires a gas and botanical gas station in the community.
“We want a 24-hour doctor in our locality, as sometimes there are emergencies that we may not find a vehicle to transport to the village”, he stated.
In turn, the president of the city council, Francisco Tavares said that the council is completing three years in office and now it is time to take stock to see what the municipality has managed to do during this period.
According to the mayor, this meeting is to analyze the current situation and listen to the population's expectations for the last year of office and also for the future, ensuring that they will be carried out in other locations.
According to the same source, the population of Vila de Nossa Senhora do Monte does not have a consensus, but the vast majority are appealing for needs that, according to him, are not within the area of direct action of the city council, namely health, policing , strengthening education, among others.
In this sense, Francisco Tavares highlighted that it is an appeal to the city council to reinforce the request to entities that operate in these areas.
“As far as the city council is concerned, it is an investment in a grass field, even if it is for training, however we have some difficulties because it is budgeted at around 50 to 60 thousand contos which, in the reality of the island, is a lot of money”, he informed .
Francisco Tavares also highlighted another problem which is the lack of land, since according to him, it is one hundred percent private and the majority of owners reside in the United States of America, which makes business difficult.
“I believe that, if we had obtained the land since the beginning of the mandate, at this moment this would not be an issue, as we had already obtained the financing to carry out the field, but we will do everything we can to see if we can do it next year”, he concluded .
